Uncharted waters, full steam ahead

Setting The Course to Bring Cultivated Seafood to Market with $100 Million in Series B Funding

We launched Wildtype with a mission to transform the food system by creating the cleanest, most sustainable seafood on earth. Wildtype salmon keeps fish in the ocean and out of farms; it’s also free of mercury, microplastics, and other contaminants commonly found in seafood. Bringing Wildtype salmon to restaurants around the country is a huge undertaking, and we’re excited to share that we recently closed a $100 million Series B round of investment to bring this vision to life.

Wildtype Voyage Into The Future

This round was led by L Catterton, and includes investments from Leonardo DiCaprio, Bezos Expeditions, Temasek, S2G Ventures Oceans and Seafood Fund, Robert Downey Jr.'s FootPrint Coalition, Cargill, and prominent chefs from around the world. Existing investors, including Spark Capital, CRV, Maven, AiiM, and Root Ventures also continued their incredible support for Wildtype with Series B investments.

- Leonardo DiCaprio Wildtype Investor, Actor & Environmentalist

This investment includes contributions from environmental activists, scientists, health proponents, acclaimed artists, professional athletes, and institutional investors with a passion for consumer brands, all of whom couldn’t be more excited to help us bring Wildtype salmon to breakfast, lunch, and dinner tables across the world.

- Jon Owsley Wildtype Investor, Managing Partner, L Catterton

We’re also excited to announce that L Catterton’s Alice Raksin and revered scientist and leader Dr. Berta Strulovici will be joining Wildtype’s board of directors. Alice has partnered with respected brands around the world to build world-class consumer products. Berta has served as a leader at some of the world’s most prestigious institutions and successful companies; we’re absolutely thrilled that she’ll be joining our board of directors and continuing Wildtype’s tradition of scientific excellence.

We’re sharing this news because we can now do things that we’ve only dreamed about in the past. First, we have the opportunity to continue improving Wildtype salmon and create the foundation for future products. Second, this investment will enable us to build a larger production facility, and bring our products to even more restaurants and stores after we complete our FDA safety consultation. It also allows us to invest in technologies that will improve production and lower the cost to our customers.
